STOMPer night owl saw a pothole at Yishun that was about 1 metre deep and wide. The STOMPer informed the town council via its 24-hour hotline and was told it would be rectified as soon as possible. However, when the STOMPer checked almost 5 hours later, nothing had yet been done.
Said the STOMPer (Jan 23):
"What's the point of 24-hour town council hotline?
"As I was walking to the other end of Yishun to join in the Chinese Lunar New Year countdown, I happened to see this manhole of about 1m deep and equal dimension at Yishun Street 21 between Blocks 201 and 202, beside the public staircase which leads to a bus stop. It is believed that the soil had eroded away due to the rain earlier on.
"Immediately I called the NEA, but they advised me to call the town council. I called the town council at about 10pm plus in Yishun to seek emergency help. I told them the location and the size of this manhole. They assured me they would rectify this ASAP.
"While I was walking back home, at about 0230 hours, nothing was done at all. People are supposed to be on standby to attend to emergencies, hence the hotline. I understand it's a holiday. Since it's a holiday and if nobody is on standby for emergencies, they should close down the hotline.
"If they had reacted to the call, and found nobody to repair the hole, at least close down this area and place a safety sign to warn public users to stay away. But this case, it seems nothing was done!
"I'm just very disappointed in the town council. They did not do as promised.
"Let's hope tomorrow no kids would be injured. Imagine if some kids play at night, and happened to fall inside...how? Who is going to answer to it?"
It is very common here as Singapore regarded as an efficient country, but not exactly on government services..... .
