Bad smells can spread diseases? Sign asking owners to wash dogs makes no sense

STOMPer Joping felt that this sign, apparently posted by someone who was bothered by smelly pets, made little sense.

The STOMPer pointed out that the sign was probably posted by someone who had access to the notice board at Jurong West Street 64, because the note was neatly pinned onto the board.

The STOMPer said:

"I came across this notice.

"It must be put up by someone who had access to the notice board, because the note is pinned onto the board and not just slipped in.

"Are smells contagious?

"If your neighbour smells really bad after a hard day at work, does that mean that he or she can spread diseases as well?

"Maybe we'll need to post something that says: please do not take the lift because your odour can spread diseases.

"What a joke!"

Bad smell from a dog means the dog needs a bathe or is not properly cared for by complacent owners. Sometimes even after a bath it still smells, it could indicate skin problem and it's time to go to the vet and get it checked. Maybe change the current shampoo for the pet that maybe the cause, so are perfumes and dog powder these are possible causes of it's allergies. Now i'm wonering how will bad smell spread disease i must've that lesson when it was taught. I thought that smells are normally indications now i know!

to answer ur question, yes, bad smell can spread disease. the reason the smell is bad cos something is rotting and produce a gas that has foul smell and also there are micro organism that are air-borne.These microbes attached itself to a host. It can be fabric,hair,food...etc. just take the example of a rotting cadaver, when it's decomposing, would the bad smell spread disease? and just like after a disaster where aid workers are searching for dead bodies. why do u think they have to wear mask

I am a dog owner too, but I know how the writer of that note feels. I once had a neighbour who's dog stunk the corridor everytime they walked past and using the lift after them is definitely a knockout.... Pity their little pooches...

As pet owners, for humans or for pet, just be hygienic and clean laa... pets don't suffer, humans also enjoy.
Yes, bad smell can mean the existence of some diseases.Eg dogs infested with ticks may look normal but have terrible smell...
