The pump room at Block 276a Jurong West Street 25 has since been locked by Chua Chu Kang Town Council. Spot checks have also been conducted on other blocks of flats in the vicinity.
In an earlier article, STOMPer Michael had noticed that the door to this pump room had been left unlocked. He had been concerned that unauthorized persons might have gained access to the room.
A spokesperson for PUB wrote:
"PUB, the national water agency, thanks STOMPer Michael for his feedback.
"The pump room at Block 276a Jurong West Street 25 is maintained by Chua Chu Kang Town Council and the doors to the pump room have since been locked.
"PUB also conducted checks in the surrounding blocks and found that doors to pump rooms and roofs were securely locked. PUB is investigating this case and will work closely with the Town Councils to ensure that security measures are strictly complied with.
"PUB encourages the public to report any suspected unauthorised access to the water tanks to the respective town councils/MCSTs/building owners immediately. They can also call the PUB-One 24-hour toll-free hotline at 1800-2846600."
