The 'new' rubbish bin: Residents dump trash in lift car

STOMPer Terence was shocked to see one-quarter of the lift car occupied with rubbish when the lift doors opened. So inconsiderate to treat the lift as the new rubbish bin, he remarked.

Said the STOMPer in his contribution (Jul 18):

"Lift is the new rubbish bin.

"I was shocked when the lift door opened.

"Rubbish occupied a quarter of the lift.

"Singaporeans nowadays treat the lift as the 'new' rubbish bin.

"How inconsiderate can they still be?

"This happened at Block 717 in Yishun. There is litter in the lift almost every day, but this is the worst case I've seen so far."

Many residents thought they have a right to dump rubbish anywhere they like since they have paid the conservancy charges.

Sometime it is the cleaners who do it as they pick up these near the chutes and temporary put into the lifts so that the other cleaner at the ground floor can clear.

Blame the dwellers who don't dispose in the chutes properly in the first place.
