STOMPer Traditionist was surprised when close to 3,000 residents turned up for the Getai show in a quiet estate in Jurong West last night.

People of all ages came to the scene of the show and had a merry time watching the talented singers perform alongside local comedians.

In an email, Traditionist says:

"The annual Getai came to this quiet HDB estate last night.

"The Getai stage and performers at Blk 431, Jurong West Ave 1 pulled in a crowd of about 3,000.

"The performance lasted two hours and most residents, young and old, came out to watch and support the festival which was a far cry from the crowd at Esplanade Theatres on the Bay. Babies, kids, parents and grandparents came for a gala show as the whole family was entertained.

"The Taiwanese and Malaysian singers belted out their favourite Mandarin and Hokkien numbers much to the appreciation of the crowd.

"Their CDs and DVDs sold like hot cakes.

"On stage the emcee was telling his usual ribald jokes and the female lead singer was wearing a glittering dress of minimum area and gyrating her body with risque rhythm.

"What attracted the male attention was her dress with two white gloves neatly sewn over her chest to hide her vital assets.

"I saw a young boy was riding piggyback on his father's shoulders and enjoying the show.

"There was a man in his 40's sitting atop the driver's cabin of his lorry and enjoying the performance.

"The crowd came in their thousands as they parked their motorcycles and cars in the parking lots and even on the kerbs as every place was filled to the brim".
