STOMPer Ornithologist spotted a row of egrets perched on a fence at Jurong East bus interchange. He shares:
"These pictures were taken at the Jurong East bus interchange at Boon Lay Way.
"It was just after the rain had stopped and a row of plumed egrets (Egretta intermedia) were perched on the metallic fence to dry their feathers.
"As the field was mown earlier in the morning, some egrets were in the field searching for worms and grasshoppers to appease their hunger.
"These egrets have a lace of fine plume and their diet includes fish, aquatic insects and fresh water crustaceans.
"This species builds twig nests in colonies about 50m from the ground.
"Their nests are balanced in forks of trees and it is not unusual to find fallen eggs littering the ground under a colony."
