Residents on four storeys of a HDB block in Choa Chu Kang Street 62 were evacuated by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) from their homes earlier this evening (Jul 21) after a fire had broken out in two units on the 11th and 12th floor.
Earlier, STOMPers hu rinko, justwalkingby ,Lalastomper, Concerned Neighbour, Serene Tan and razorlala sent in photos of the fire alongside their reports.

"Just got home from work (Jul 21) when I saw a unit in Block 621 at Choa Chu Kang Street 62 catch fire.
"My first instinct was to call the SCDF.
"Last I heard was that they were fighting the fire. So scary!"

"A fire broke out at Block 621 Choa Chu Kang Street 62 today (Jul 21).
"It's my block. The fire was at the 11th and 12th floor.
"No one knows what caused the fire at that time.
"It happened around 6pm.
"It's really very serious -- the firemen, policeman and ambulance all came down.
"Hope no one was injured."
STOMPer Concerned Neighbour wrote:
"Apparently the unit on fire belongs to a Malay family who rented their flat out.
"The flames were so strong -- even the 12th storey caught fire also, and the heat could be felt at the opposite side of the block.
"A few explosions were heard as firefighters were trying to put out the fire."

"I was awakened from my evening nap by the fire.
"I looked out of the window to see someone's house on fire.
"The fire brigade was already there when 10th floor is burning.
"The fire was then put out. However, the 11th floor started burning about 20 to 30 minutes later.
"The fire became as big as the one that just been put out downstairs."
In a media statement, a spokesperson for the SCDF wrote:
"We received a call at 6.06pm today (Jul 21).
"1 fire engine, 2 Red Rhinos, 1 supporting appliance and 1 ambulance were deployed to the scene."
"The fire broke out in one residential unit on the 11th floor, and another on the 12th floor.
"Both units were not occupied at the time. As such, our personnel used breaking tools to gain entry into the units.
"One jet was used on each unit.
"No one was injured in this incident.
"The SCDF also conducted an evacuation of residents living on the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th floor as a precautionary measure."
Grammar: you can evacuate a place, but to evacuate people means to give them an enema.
I'm disappointed in SPH for letting such travesty be published.
