8 suffer diarrhoea, vomiting after meal, but restaurant denies responsibility

STOMPer Edward and his friends suffered from diarrhoea, vomiting and fever after a buffet at a restaurant at a 5-star hotel. But the restaurant's management denied responsibility over the incident.

Said the STOMPer:

"My friends booked a table for 16 at a restaurant for a gathering on 28 January 2012.

"However, on the following day, eight suffered from severe diarrhoea, vomiting and fever.

"My girlfriend was even admitted for four days at Changi General Hospital; the rest of us visited various GPs for treatment.

"Since the one thing we had common was dinner at that restaurant the day before, we informed the restaurant of our predicament.

"To our massive disappointment, instead of making it up to us, we were constantly pestered by the restaurant to provide my girlfriend's medical results from her hospital stay.

"They didn't even send a token fruit basket or a get well card to the hospital even though they knew that this incident could be their fault.

"To make matters worse, they made us wait for almost a week so that they could investigate the incident with their UK consultant.

"The test came back stating that they had negative bacteria results in their food and that their restaurant had nothing to do with our predicament since there wasn't any bacteria found in my girlfriend's blood and stool.

"Her and my friends' diagnosis are all the same: it was Gastroenteritis.

"The restaurant manager said that the diagnosis was too general to be food poisoning and said that eight of us could have been infected by the same virus at the same time elsewhere.

"How could eight friends that haven't seen each other for the past few days end up suffering from the exact same symptoms after dining from the same restaurant?

"I called NEA and they have verified that finding no bacteria during the tests does not mean that the food didn't cause the Gastroenteritis.

"It might be due to food handling or other factors, which was also confirmed by the doctor at Changi General Hospital.

"My girlfriend is still suffering from the pain now.

"From our experience, the food and service at that restaurant was fantastic.

"But their management handled this case very poorly.

so where is this hotel? Stomper merely mentioned 5 star hotel.hm....but difficult to say it's entirely the rest fault. maybe it is maybe it is not, but personal hygiene come to play too. Else it might be the stomach are not "well-equipped" to handle certain food. Hope all are well now.
