Got service or not?
Uni gives students less than 3 days to prepare for important exam

A STOMPer feels that his university is being very unreasonable in its sudden announcement of an important test, giving students less than three days to study.

The STOMPer wrote:

"I am writing in to voice my opinion regarding the ridiculous fact that the James Cook University gives students less than 3 days notice for a deferred examination.

"The original examination was on 19 Dec 2011, and students who were absent were asked to submit their Medical Certificates and deferment forms by 23 Dec.

"Following that, there was no news from the school even until 3 Jan 2011. It was only due to my insistence, that the student services started to contact the exam board to find out when the deferred exam has been scheduled.

"An email was later sent at 3.20pm on the same day to all students who were absent for the exam, indicating that the exam is to be held on Friday, 6 Jan, at 2pm. It took them 12 days to send the email.

"Those who do not turn up will be credited zero marks for this midterm component. Appeals were made to change the date to the next working day, Monday, 9 Jan. However, the school rejected the appeals.

"I do not have photographic memory and we also have other projects and work to do. And we have to revise many chapters and topics. What if others only check their e-mail today? Or on the last day?

"It is really unreasonable to give us such a short notice, and hence I am writing in to raise awareness regarding the entitlements and rights of students. We should be treated fairly, and this incident is no excuse."

In the first place, like the wad u said, this is an DEFERRED exam. which gives u no excuses dat u only had 3 days to study. u should haf done ur revision way before during the first scheduled exam. somemore u had dat extra time to revise before the deferred date was announced. so yep, sry, no excuses.

Unbelievable.. You should have studied beforehand when you already know the exam schedule. You even deferred, which gives you even more time to study and yet you blame the uni for not informing you earlier about the deferred exam. Don't use other assignments and projects as excuses, all the other students also face the same situation. If you can't do it, then don't waste your parent's money. There are people out there who have not enough money to go to local uni even with subsidy, let alone a private uni. Please don't make a fool out of yourself.

since there was an original date for the exam, shouldn't you have studied for it already anyway?

ah, i can even see that you have no idea whats the difference between exams and test, the email clearly states its a test and you have the cheek to put it as an exam for your topic?

second point to note, you mentioned its a deferred test meaning to say the actual one should be way earlier before the test you are suppossed to sit for and due to some "special" reasons whether real or fake, you are given additional time to STUDY and take the deferred test

i see no reason, why is this even on the STOMP with the intention of trying to spoil the school's reputation? when in fact the one being the clown here is the student himself

Serene_82 --> I'd be keen to find out who your employer is, and you obviously don't know your employment rights very well. If, in any case, you are not exaggerating your case, can I please refer you to www.mom.gov.sg, its for your own sake.
StomperV --> I really wonder if you think before you talk. Please get your facts right before flaming an entire institution with the students in it. James Cook University is one of the most established private education provider in Singapore and were given recognition from the government several times. There are even plans for NUS to work with them to run courses our local universities cannot offer. So, before you speak next time, use some intelligence? or maybe you are just talk, afterall, an empty shell makes the most noise yeah?

You probably need another degree cause ur first one isn't compensating for your stupidity assuming you even have a functioning brain

I wonder what your potential employer will think even if you manage to get a degree from James cook univ. A NZ univ I suppose or is it some 'shell' univ.
