$35 for chicken rice set: Price hike due to 'overwhelming response'?

When STOMPer chickwn rice dined at a hotel restaurant recently, he was shocked when the bill came to $35 for a plate of chicken rice and a drink. They told him the price was due to 'overwhelming response', said the STOMPer.

The STOMPer elaborates (Sep 16):

"What a rip off.

"$35 dollars for a plate of chicken rice? Too expensive? Plus an iced lemon tea? God...

"I ate this at Chatterbox, Mandarin Hotel recently.

"It cost me $35, GST included.

"In June, I also had it, and it cost me $17.50.

"According to the restaurant, the price increase was due to the overwhelming response and demand for the chicken rice.

"In November last year when I had it, it was also below $20.

"It tasted like ordinary chicken rice.

"Unfortunately I did not take a picture of the receipt."

this is the norm at chatter box.it has been around for years and the chicken rice there is known to be the best in sg and it has been publish in numerous international magazine for years.it doesn't matter if u or anyone says it taste no different from any other but they didn't get the name from ppl like tasting it.I have eaten at this restraunt a few times over the years and true to the recomendation from world reknown gourmet magazines, they were good to the finest detail. If u feel the pinch dining here on one of sg's best chix rice, then u should just stick to food courts and hawkers. If ur making a fuss on this then i shan't think wat u'll say if u dine at chen fu ji with $25 a pop on their fried rice

Been there after their renovation. Used to be on the ground floor. They have a "No Slippers" policy and the place is very posh. Was there with my hubby and daughter early last year and yes, there is a menu given which indicated the price. If you dont like the price, you could walk away even after sitting at the table. I paid about SGD25/pax without drinks. You paid $17.50 with drinks last year than they must be giving you a discount.
Why complain when you already knew the prices are so ex?

Yest I had chick rice (I dont usually eat it) at chompang for 2.20, tasty like hell. If the taste is justified in price then it'll prob be 45$
