Tiger Airways passengers stranded in airport because there's 'no plane'

STOMPer Jack is stranded at the airport together with other passengers as there is no plane for his scheduled flight. According to him, the ground staff is unaware of the situation.

The frustrated STOMPer wrote:

"My flight TR2102, was delayed from 6.30am to 9.55am. Now they are telling me there is no plane.

"Tiger did not give us (passengers) any reason and during boarding time, the ground staff also do not know what is happening.

"Some passengers said they're here because last night's flight was cancelled - again for no reason given.

"Many people say Tiger is short of pilots and that's why this is happening. We are so disappointed with their brand image now.

"In Australia, the general feeling is that Tiger treats customers poorly since they are budget airlines.

"Jetstar and Air Asia are more reliable."

In a response to a RazorTV inquiry, Tiger Airways explains that the flight delay was not due to a shortage of pilots, but the fact that one of their planes had to be brought back to France for extended checks and maintenance.

A Tiger Airways spokesperson said:

"We recently had two aircraft with technical issues that were grounded for extended checks & maintenance over the past few weeks. One of them had to be brought back to Toulouse (France).

"As a result, we had to reschedule or cancel flights in a way that minimizes overall disruption.

"As soon as possible, and using our best efforts, we notify affected passengers through SMS, email, phone. We regret the inconvenience caused to affected passengers and have offered various alternative options in accordance with our disruption policy, such as refunds and alternative flights.

"Tiger Airways does not compromise on safety and is taking the necessary measures to rectify the aircraft issue. We will be receiving a new aircraft next week.

"As for rumours about a pilot strike, there is no strike! We currently have over 110 pilots for a fleet of 10 aircraft (or 11 if you include 1 new aircraft to be delivered next week) and we are continuing to attract more for growth."

Avoid tiger airways at all costs! I'd a very bad experience with them in Nov 2010. They brought forward my flight schedule from PEN to SIN without informing me. No call, no email, nothing. I reached airport only to find out flight has departed!! Had to fork out RM600 to fly silkair back. Their 3rs party ground staff can't help u much. Forget about calling their call centre, their 3rd party call agents are trained to put u on hold for ages. Try complaining? They've only a PO Box address to write to (check out their website if u dun believe). And no reply from them after 2 mths. It's definitely not worth the cheap fares. Get hit by them once and you'll never recover ...

I had a very bad experience with tiger airways a few months back. And i agree with the stompers here. Avoid them as much as possible and take them at your own risk. And if you choose to fly with them, don't bother buying the tiger insurance; they don't cover any lost/damaged baggage, hotel charges for canceled flights, etc. Its just a lame excuse to get another 5 dollars out of you.

This is not the first time new of tiger capabality to cancel its flights after it has try to add in new flights.
With all the funny board me first , flight change fare and most of the time high fares simply does not justify their service to pay for all this. The $$ can be well spend on non budget airline at times their fare are even more realistic than Tiger wild imagination

Insurance do not cover cancelled flights. Just avoid them would be best, the cost for hotel room will be burn if they just cancel flights.

The problem is they are facing a pilot shortage and cannot mount the flights on their schedule, contrary to their excuse of having one or two planes sent to France.

Is it cheating if they are still accecpting people's payment for services with the full knowledge that they cannot provide the services? Afterall, once you accecpt payment, it's a contract.

I understand if things happen last minute, like weather, breakdowns etc, but when they know they don't have the pilot numbers, and still take payment from you.... is this called cheating?

buy travel insurance if u travel tiger airways and enjoy your claims if they mess things up. Soon the insurers will blacklist tiger and that should be a good wake up call.
