Singtel is giving subscribers 72 hours of free Mio TV access to make up for a major breakdown that left thousands of subscribers without service over three days. The problem had begun on Mar 1, at about 6am.

The disruption in service upset many STOMPers, who had complained about being left in the dark about the problem and its resolution. According to a Singtel spokesperson, the problem had been due to a 'suspected software bug'.

A spokesperson for Singtel told STOMP:

"As a result of a suspected software bug, about 6 per cent or 10,000 of our MIO TV customers experienced service disruption earlier this week. The problem has been rectified and we offer our sincere apologies to those affected.

"As a goodwill gesture, all MIO TV customers will enjoy 72 hours, round-the-clock free viewing of all broadcast channels (Subscription video-on-demand channels such as US TV Packs are not included in this offer) from Friday (Mar 19) 12.01 am to Sunday midnight (Mar 21), during the school holidays.

"This includes the Mei Ah Drama Channel as well as Asia’s first lifestyle HD Channel, Li TV which features the best of Food, Home, Wellness, Travel and Style programming.

"More information about the channels can be found at www.singtel.com/miotv."

Twice a month, even my Singtel Broadband will disconnect itself while I'm surfing the net after 12a.m. Was unable to reconnect due to 'remote computer did not respond'.

72 hours of unrestricted viewing? You think people will benefit from this? I would prefer a direct waiver of subscription fees.

72 hours..... is that it? Singtel needs to do more than just make up for 3 days disruption with 3 days free.
