Got service or not?
Getting told off were not what these customers expected at Eighteen Chefs

STOMPer Rose was appalled by the extremely bad service rendered by staff at the Eighteen Chefs restaurant in Yishun.

In an email to STOMP today (Feb 28), the STOMPer says:

“My fiancé and I decided to have dinner at Eighteen Chefs on Feb 27, Yishun branch.

“Being a regular at there, we already knew what we wanted to order.

“There were 2 staff at the front counter. We waited to be served. The lady staff was just looking at her card and reading it.

"When we politely tried to get her attention to acknowledge our presence, she walked off from the counter and stood at one side to chat with her colleague.

"Her colleague just stood there and refused to serve us.

"We kept our cool and waited for someone else to serve us. Then a woman attended to us.

"She took our order but whatever we ordered, she said it was not available.

"And to my surprise, she told us to write our orders down on the order sheet properly.

"With her harsh tone and ill-mannered behaviour, she even tried to tell us off when we wrote it wrongly. I told her that this was not the right way to speak to the customer and for their information, its not our first time dining there. How could we be treated like that?

"The reason for our repeat visit to the outlet is because the food was nice and ambience was quite cosy for a normal restaurant.

"But this time the type of service we got, we felt terribly insulted and humiliated.

"We decided to leave the restaurant. I have never ever felt so insulted.

"I am a very unsatisfied customer and very unhappy with this service provided.

"I wish I could just close one eye but never have I seen such bad service before in a restaurant.

"I have also never seen such restaurants that allow all their staff to sit and dine in during working hours and customers to wait in queue.

"I totally regret coming to their restaurant just now."

even if the attitudes are not good, it is just the minority. there are quite a number of outlets and it is not easy for the bosses to manage. if you have so much complaints about 18 chefs, well i can tell you there are ALOT MORE other restaurants whose staffs treat you as invisible.

they are changing; give them a chance. yet you criticize them however you did. keep your cool man. dont you know usually the staffs eat when there are lesser customers? this is not a 5 star hotel.

Just because of the girls, you wanna bring down the whole branch reputation. please lor, if you know how to treat ppl right, ppl with treat you right also. when you mentioned "I told her that this was not the right way to speak to the customer and for their information, its not our first time dining there. How could we be treated like that?", were you saying nicely to them or were you saying in a different (higher) tone? You could have directed them to the manager on the day itself right? &"allow all their staff to sit and dine in during working hours and customers to wait in queue" If all staff were to do that (sit and dine in), the manager can close the outlet for their lunch/dinner/tea break... Furthermore, I am pretty sure there were other staff to serve you. Like come on, I have been there almost every week but nothing like what you said have happened. SO PEOPLE, DONT BE DUPE BY THIS STOMPER. YOU SHOULD TRY OUT THE PLACE.

Hey to those who have never been to 18 chefs, keep your mouth shut please. Having tattoos means they are gangsters? Do you have brain? I guess you people have low IQ & EQ. Stop behaving like a typical singaporean and complain about every single thing. I've been to 18 chefs quite a number of time and never experience anything like you said. You SHOULD know that you're SUPPOSE to write your orders on the form and then bring it to the counter right? So who do you think you are to not follow the rules? I guess you've never been to coffee shop huh?
And yeah, YELLOW RIBBON PROJECT. 18 Chefs is being real nice to employ ex convicts as it's hard for them to get a job outside right? Ex convicts being released means they've changed! Your brain must be clogged with "money". If you're so great, go home and cook your own food.

I can assure that the food is better than Hk cafe and the service you get is much much more than fast food. It's like a family there. You know everyone, and they remember you. There are also big communities that hang out there very often. If they are late in sending out orders, you might find yourself treated to a free ice cream, or garlic bread.
So don't ask for more if you are paying megre for good food and ambience. And yes, you have to queue anywhere in singapore, even in your own home toilet sharing with family members.

Eighteen chefs is a place like any other hongkong cafe where you have to fill up the forms. If you need recommendations, you got to get the staffs' attentions by raising hands, not glinting at them HOPING they would get you. If you want them to fill up for you, you still have to call for them. As the culture there is slightly different but similar to fast food restaurant, you have to walk up to the counter.

service there is good, food is nice, price also nice.

so what else do you expect, a waiter waiting on you? try the light house at fulluton - but cost more only, say 150 per person?

eighteen chef is a "wait to be seated", write your order on the order sheet, go cashier, pay then wait for your food to be cook....

try it out and you will know...

I hv been there couple of times. I have to agreed with her.
There are 2 young girls who really 'dont want to serve attitude' who hanged around the customer. They simply have no ethics. And this is bad for the company reputation. I really hope the management will really get to the bottom of this.. But i must take my hats off for a couple of guys who are the waiters and the cashiers.. they are really good. Respectful and ready to serve... At some point, they even fill the order papers for us... just queue .. they will assist us... So lets get the rest another chance and for the 2 girls... if you dont have the attitude to serve then ... BALIK KAMPONG... !!!!!!!!!!
