Got service or not?
Should teenage waitress at Manhattan Fish Market been more professional?

That was the question posed by STOMPer B2ST when she encountered a teenage waitress at the Manhattan Fish Market outlet in Pasir Ris.

She recounted the incident in an email to STOMP:

“I had just visited The Manhattan Fish Market located at Whitesands yesterday (Jan 14).

“This was what exactly happened.

“As I was having a serious conversation with my friend, this teenage waitress came over to cut in our conversation.

“I wasn't sure what she was trying to say (well, she was actually asking if she could clear my empty soup bowl. which I only realised after she made fun of me to her colleagues) and I nodded my head saying, ‘it’s alright, later later.’

“A few seconds later, another waitress came with her hands stretching out reaching for my soup bowl saying, ‘is it ok if I clear your soup bowl?’ I then agreed of course! I can clearly hear what she was saying!

“And so, the previous waitress started whining about me not allowing her to clear my soup bowl.

“She even acted out me nodding my head with sarcasm. This is really rude.

“As I was about to leave the restaurant, she threw me a black face with attitude.

“I mean, what is this? Customers are always right, if you loved to show your attitude, I did rather you not working as a waitress to infuriate customers and ruin the name of Manhattan Fish Market.

“Is she too immature to serve customers? Should there be an age limit for jobs recruitment in restaurants?

“Should the restaurant manager guide teenagers along?”

Seriously B2ST.. you really need to wake up your idea about "Customers are always right" It was indeed a campaign but it was removed shorted and replaced with GEMS. It's because of idiotic people like you who thinks so highly of yourself that should be ashamed of. Stop acting like a king and thinks that if you pay, you are right. Jeez...

Some teenage waitresses are well-trained and are polite enough for my liking, though I must say that the majority of teenage workers still don't make the cut. You can laugh and joke loudly with your friends somewhere away from the eyes and ears of customers, but it's rude to do it in front of or near them. In this case, the waitress was extremely indiscreet which brought about a customer's displeasure. On that part, she was at fault, though it's good that she offered prompt service to clear the soup bowl. Customers have the right to enjoy their time at an establishment, not to take the service staff's rants. Of course there'll always be unreasonable customers, but it's up to the service staff to choose to remain professional or the opposite. I myself have been in several customer service oriented vacation jobs before and I know how some customers make you boil. The customer may not always be right, but you must make them feel as if they are.

got service oso complain, not attentive oso complain, cannot hear doesn't mean she did not speak correctly, there r 2 sides of a coin. some of u pls give service provider a break, u expect too much, creating more vicious cycle stress that goes round and round. change yourself and you change your world.

Why don't you confront her if you know she is mocking you?
