Old buses sent to workshop for inspection, says SMRT

SMRT has sent two buses to the workshop for inspection following STOMPer Justice Bao's complaint that the bus he travelled in was worn out and uncomfortable.

In an earlier posting, this STOMPer had stated that the windows of the bus that he was travelling in looked worn out and the air-con was not working.

In an email to STOMP(Nov 16), SMRT says:

"We contacted the STOMPer for more information so that we can investigate further.

"As the STOMPer was unable to recall the date of his journey, we were only able to narrow our investigation to a range of dates based on his CEPAS card number, and arranged for two buses to be sent to the workshop for inspection.

"We thank the STOMPer for providing his feedback, and would like to take this opportunity to request that passengers provide us with details (date, time, licence plate number and direction of travel) for our investigations in future."

One thing. SMRT needs to put in a few more checklist items into their regular maintenance form. Maybe include a shorter time-interval for certain parts that have a shorter MTBF rate.

Governement keep telling road user to take public transport yet they still take their own transport.....
They should first do it as an example for us to follow.
Why people don't want to take public transport.
Wait TOO long, Too pack and dirty some more.
No idea what is the maintenance crew doing

Why? The responsible party is interested in checking so they just can not be bothered lor. It is the same as if there is no traffic police around who will bother about the traffic offences? Anyway, those public buses are suppose to have regular routine inspections.

I don't understand the attitude of most public transport operators here in Singapore. Why do they wait for a complaint to surface either in this website or in the Forum Pages before they send the vehicles for preventive maintenance. The operators must bear in mind that here in Singapore we do pay a premium fare and the least we ask of them is to provide us a comfortable ride and surely they can. I hope they change their attitude and become proactive service providers
