Got service or not?
If you don't buy drinks from our stall, you don't drink at all, say Chinatown touts

This was the warning given to customers by a drink stall staff at Chinatown Food street -- that if they did not buy drinks from them, they were not allowed to drink at all.

Chinatown Food Street, located at Smith Street, is a popular roadside dining area in Chinatown.

STOMPer Francis overheard the female staff saying that to some of the customers, who were seating at tables she claimed belonged to her stall.

The STOMPer, who was at the said:

"I believe that these touts were from the same drink stall there. I saw a few men and a woman staff going around touting aggressively.

"Even though the tables were in the open area, they claimed the tables were theirs and that customers can only sit at the tables if they order from their drink stall.

"The woman staff even told some customers who had already ordered their food that if they did not buy drinks from her stall, they were not allowed to drink at all.

"This kind of touting just makes us Singaporean look ugly!"

I saw the hawker attacked another group of 4 Ang Mo using same technique. They stormed off, abandoned their food and went to the mini mart opp to buy drinks. Authorities should come night time to see for themselves how shameless these touts are. Don't sit in office and pass messages. Apec delegates if chance to visit the place and receive such gangster treatment good luck to everybody. BTW since the Geylang food poison case I thought no makeshift stall should carry A for hygience ? How come here all stalls got A? If everyone stormed off this street to avoid the drinks touts then the rest of the decent hawkers will be badly affected. Everyone should stand out to fight these bad apples.

I went to this Chinatown foodstreet last tues. I ordered food from the stall and sat down when a uncle shouted at me. "Hoi ! where you got your drink from? Here never buy from me cannot drink!" I was shock there was such a rule. I shouted back "what has it got to do with you. I eat here got the right to sit. I drink what none of your business."
The man shouted 4 letter words. I noticed the signs that used to be there saying no touting and promoting is gone. Now they replace with on outside food. Is NEA aware of the change ? or are these touts flouting and abusing the law? If authorities approved them to use high pressure selling then better add the words no outside food and drinks.

Isn't there a contact no. to call to check on these type of unreasonble hawkers? So intimidating. Just spite her by drinking lah she can't whack u also.

Call also no use. They cannot come down when you needed them the most. By then they reacted, no evidence.
