STOMPer Hawker Fan had to pay $20.50 for a plate of Ngor Hiong Poh Piah at Lavender Food Centre.
Said the STOMPer:
"My group and I decided to head to Lavender Food Square for Supper last Friday (Sep 7).
"We randomly ordered various dishes to share and also had this local delight commonly known as Ngor Hiong Poh Piah.
"We picked 7 items and this plate cost us a whopping $20.50!
"We were shocked by the steep price and everyone was puzzled as to how how each item could possibly cost $3 on average!
"We asked the store owner and according to them, (1) Strip of Sotong about 7cm cost $6 and (2) Pink Pork cost $4, these two items already sum up to $10.
"FYI, the BBQ store next to them is selling BBQ Sambal Sotong only at $4.50 for a plate.
"We usually eat without checking each and every food item prices, but I guess now we will after this incident.
"We are not asking patrons to boycott this stall but we are hoping to bring awareness to all food fanatics in Singapore to enjoy local delights without getting into such situations.
"Therefore, you may still eat from this stall but just avoid these 2 items which are way over-priced.
"Their Satay is also 10c/stick higher than any other Satay stalls there."
