Xin Ni was an outcast in her school until she met May. The girls bonded over their common interests in anime and J-pop and went on to become best friends who share secrets they won't even tell their parents.
Xin Ni wrote:
"While I was browsing through the social network, I came across the BFF contest and I thought 'why not share my story?
"I met my best friend May in 2008 through a school mate who's in the same CCA. We hit off immediately due to our common interests, which are watching anime and listening to J-pop.
"I was an outcast in my school and no one had the same interests as me. It was such a relief I found her. We could hang out for hours after school and sing every song we learnt from a new anime series.
"Whenever we faced obstacles in life, we would tell each other our problems and sing away. Sometimes our secrets are only for each other, not even our parents would understand us.
"There was once when our parents caused us not to talk for a month, which hurt us emotionally. That time was the worst point in life for me, and we ended up calling each other and promising that we would not let our parents ruin what's between us.
"We realized that this friendship is really important and we will not take chances to ruin it. There are so many things she has done for me, hearing me out when I'm at my most vulnerable times.
"I don't really know how to show how that I care for her too, and I hope that she's reading this. I hope she will know that no matter what happens, even when the whole world is her enemy I will be the one standing beside her.
