Can this biker's unusual helmet prevent injury to the head?

STOMPer Docceur was driving along Marymount Road yesterday (July 9) at around 5pm when she spotted this motorcyclist with an unusual looking helmet. She wonders if the helmet can prevent injury to the head.

The STOMPer wrote:

"I was driving along Marymount Road yesterday at around 5 pm when I saw this man with this helmet.

"It looked like he made it himself.

"I took this when we stopped at the traffic light junction."
