NSman smokes, litters and makes himself a nuisance in Yishun void deck

A STOMPer saw a man in the army uniform smoking and talking loudly in the void deck at Yishun Street 72 Block 746 at close to midnight. The man even flicked his cigarette butt away nonchalantly.

The STOMPer is concerned over the lack of discipline and poor public image shown by the man.

The STOMPer said:

"I was with a few friends chatting under my block at Block 746 Yishun St 72 at around 11.40pm when the group of three people beside our table caught our attention.

"They were blasting music and talking loudly.

"This NSman in his uniform was talking very loudly and laughing away about making love in public.

"This seriously annoyed us.

"Then he took out a cigarette to smoke. I thought NSmen aren't supposed to smoke in public when they are in their uniform?

"What is happening to the discipline of our NSmen?

"They break rules openly and tarnish the reputation of our army. It's seriously disappointing to see all these."

Seriously, we know that it is illegal to litter; be it NSMan or not. What's the underlying msg that you're giving kids if u say to give the NSMan a break just because he has worked hard? NS IS national service. If he expects privileges given because of it, why should he even be a Singaporean? Give up your citizenship if u think the responsibilities r too much! We DON'T need WIMPS to give us FALSE HOPES! Not forgetting that the area nears schools. What kinda example is he setting for the kids? School children in uniform are still conformed to school rules. What less NSMen in uniform?

Theauthorities shld patrol & book them for dismeanour, otherwise could escalate into something very drastic as nerves get frayed. The seats shld not be there & even be removed, as it becomes too comfortable a gathering point for them. It is a fallacy that they will still sit on floors or anywhere else. Youths also have their own self-interest and will not do things that are uncomfortable or inconvenient. The void decks have become places where expletives and co ***** remarks are made, sometimes in a threatening manner. Is society degenerating to much lower levels?
