Starting them young? Boy buys 4D at S'pore Pools outlet but no one stops him

STOMPer Neo saw a boy apparently queuing up to buy 4D at a Singapore Pools outlet in the Jalan Besar area. The boy was also reportedly checking the odds for football betting and buying scratch-and-win tickets from a machine, without anyone stopping him.

STOMP understands that betting tickets cannot be sold to persons under the age of 18.

The STOMPer said:

"This young boy, obviously under 18, was at the Singapore Pools outlet at King George's Avenue.

"He used the computer to check the odds for football betting for 15 minutes, bought scratch-and-win tickets at a machine and even joined the line to buy 4D.

"No one stopped him."

From the photos, it looked like the boy was accompanying the elderly man who did not seem to be able to walk properly. Which one do you think is a greater sin? Not practicing filial piety or queueing in line to buy 4D with Ah-gong?

Our Responsible Gaming code prohibits us from selling tickets or paying prizes to anyone under 18 years of age. We also discourage under-18s from entering our shops.

Our investigations show that the boy had accompanied a frail elderly man into our shop. While he tinkered with our equipment before helping the man out of the shop, we wish to emphasize that the boy did not place any 4D bets.

Regrettably, our staff was busy and failed to notice the boy in good time to show him out. We have counseled our staff to be more vigilant and prompt in enforcing our Responsible Gaming guidelines.

Singapore Pools will continue to improve its measures to prevent underaged betting.
