First he tweeted a picture of his 'O' Level exam paper. Then he challenged STOMPers to expose him. This led to him being questioned by the Exams Board, which he first took lightly in his video response, but later revealed in a RazorTV interview that he regrets his actions.
13 minutes before his Social Studies examination was to begin, Outram Secondary student Xavier Ong posted a picture of his exam paper onto Twitter.
This was despite the fact that mobile phones are not allowed into the examination hall. An invigilator had also spotted him using his phone and asked, 'Are you done?', upon which Xavier kept his phone.
This sparked much debate amongst netizens, and this prompted Xavier to post two video responses: One where he challenged STOMPers to expose him as he liked the attention, and another in which he reviewed his meeting with the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB).
On Thursday, Nov 18, the SEAB called up the student for an inquiry. In his video response, Xavier said he was unhappy with the way they questioned him, and claimed he did not care about the outcome.
He also mentioned he would soon be taking the SAT Reasoning Test and try for admission into a college in the United States. "The further the better, you know what I mean? Since you want to get out, you get far away, no point getting (somewhere) so near," he said in his video.
However, in an interview with RazorTV, Xavier revealed he regretted tweeting his exam paper, and said he did not 'think much of his Twitter post when he first tweeted it'.
He also said he 'acted on impulse' by sending his video responses to STOMP. Looking back on the incident, he said he was at fault as what he had done was clearly against the rules.
Drawing a comparison to the United States, Xavier said, "Well I think it wouldn't be such a big thing if you're going to post a picture up," saying there was more space to voice out opinions over there.
He also revealed his intention to study abroad and that his mother was upset by the incident.
The SEAB's decision is still pending.
