STOMPer Jy caught a man red-handed while he was apparently trying to take an upskirt video of her on an escalator in the MRT station. He was finally apprehended at Bedok MRT station with the help of SMRT staff.
Jy said over the phone:
"This happened on June 12, in the evening. I was at Promenade MRT and going to Paya Lebar MRT to change trains.
"While taking the first of the two escalators to go to the green line at Paya Lebar MRT, I felt it was very weird that this guy was standing very close to me.
"His phone had a back-facing camera, and it was pointed under my skirt.
"I then followed him to Bedok, where he alighted.
"When he noticed I was following him, he started to run, and I gave chase.
"While passing the control station, I shouted to the SMRT staff to help give chase too.
"He had exited the gantry and we chased him for about five to 10 minutes. The station was also quite crowded.
"There are two escalators leading out of the station, we caught him in the middle of the first and second escalators. This was about 6pm.
"The police arrived and he denied that he took the photos but it was later found that he had recorded a video that lasted for about two to three seconds.
"The man even shouted at me during the confrontation, which lasted till 10pm in the SMRT staffroom.
"He was finally arrested, and I recently called to find out what happened after and I was told he had been bailed out and that investigations are still ongoing."
An SMRT spokesperson said (July 18):
"On Jun 12 at around 6.00pm a female passenger alerted our staff at Bedok MRT Station of a male passenger who was suspected to have taken her upskirt photo at Paya Lebar MRT Station earlier.
"The female passenger pointed out the male passenger to our staff, who promptedly detained the passenger.
"The female passenger had also alerted the Police on her own.
"TransCom Police arrived some 20 mins later, and after investigation the male passenger was arrested by the Police."
