Two more men pleaded guilty yesterday to having paid sex with an underage prostitute, becoming the fifth and sixth to do so in a high-profile online vice ring case that has implicated 48 men.
Pyi Kyaw Han, 31, and Louis Lee Lip Kian, 33, both Singaporeans, will be sentenced only after the case of Howard Shaw is decided.
The Shaw family scion had pleaded guilty to paying for sex with the same Singaporean girl about two weeks ago.
He had argued, through senior counsel Harpreet Singh Nehal, that he did not deserve a jail term, even though the first person to plead guilty had been sent to prison.
Former school principal Lee Lip Hong, 39, was given a nine-week jail sentence, but was released after six weeks for good behaviour.
Shaw, 41, had asked for a conditional discharge, or a non-custodial sentence like a fine.
Subsequently, all those who pleaded guilty have had their sentencing dates adjourned until after Shaw’s July 30 hearing date.
Yesterday, pleading for leniency, Lee’s lawyer Amolat Singh told Senior District Judge See Kee Oon that his client had been going through a divorce when he came across the girl’s profile on a website set up by her pimp Tang Boon Thiew.
“In the words of a song, he was looking for love in all the wrong places,” said Mr Amolat.
He told the court that the former relationship manager at a local bank had already been punished somewhat by the loss of his job after he was charged.
Pyi, a former director of a security company, asked for an adjournment and did not make a mitigation plea.
Both men’s cases will be heard next on Aug 27.
