While out on a morning jog, STOMPer Lee was surprised to see a crowd of people gathered at Admiralty Park. The park was filled with students from Republic Polytechnic on their smoke break.
Said the STOMPer:
"I was jogging last morning around 10am when I took a turn into the park and happened to see a whole mass of people.
"This Smoke Out is happening at Admiralty Park at Woodlands beside Republic Poly (RP).
"By the way, RP is the adopter of the Admiralty Park as mentioned on the NParks website.
"I had spoken to the discipline master of RP and was told that RP does not have jurisdiction over what their students are doing the park, though the Smoke Out is caused by the RP smoke-free campus policy.
"I also met five or six officers from NParks and the park manager. They were holding some 'Quit Smoking' flyers hoping to engage the students, however they had no authority to book the students for smoking."
Previously in 2010, more than 100 Republic Polytechnic students were seen smoking under a void deck at Block 806, Woodlands Street 81, a seven-minute walk from the polytechnic."
