Caught on video: Lorry nearly hits woman crossing road at Teban Gardens

STOMPer Lewis witnessed a near-accident this morning, when a lorry making a right turn at the junction between Teban Gardens Road and Jurong Town Hall Road nearly knocked down a woman crossing the road.

The STOMPer wrote:

"I witnessed this incident at the traffic junction between Teban Gardens Road and Jurong Town Hall Road today at around 10:35 am.

"The white lorry did not look out for pedestrians crossing the road when turning right.

"The vehicle nearly hit a pedestrian who was crossing the pedestrian crossing.

"Thankfully, the pedestrian was a young lady who managed to jump out of the way in time. An elderly person in the same situation would have stood no chance."

The lady is smart enough to keep an eye out for the vehicles. Not everyone is that luckly though. What your seeing here is almost an reennact of the fatal accident at Sengkang involving an SBS bus, except the unfortunate victim was walking the other direction, back facing traffic.

For this case, nothing seen whether pedestrian crossing was in favor to pedestrian. Most traffic lights have a button for pedestrians crossing, if never depressed, will not turn green for pedestrians But anyway drivers still need to look out for pedestrian. Secondly, LTA really need to revise the traffic lights program, cannot be "Green" for human and machine at same time....

The thing is... cos even if a complaint was lodged to the authorities, nothing would be done.

I recall some of my friends making such complaints to xxx was informed that there was nothing they could do since no one was hurt. Seems like this is the mentality or the answer these authorities give now a days to avoid doing any work.

SAD.

Seems like they would only do something when some VIP, the VIP's wife... is killed in such an accident...

Didn't see Green Man. Some pedestrians never bother to push the button for crossing road. When the traffic clears, they attempt to cross the road at Red Man.

While I agree the truck driver is a bit reckless, I give him the benefit of doubt.

Typical problem of our controlled junction which experts say is fine. Green in favor of the vehicle and also green for the pedestrian. Is asking u to cross the rd when drivers can turn, perfect for a hit.

The lorry driver was definitely trying to kill the pedestrian! He had just started to move off when the traffic light turned green for him to move. Simultaneously, the traffic was also cleared for the pedestrian to cross and she started to cross. He had the intention to threaten the girl because he did stopped right beside her and then continued to force his way through after the girl stepped back to keep clear.

I use that junction often, the position of the pedestrian is always behind the A-pillar, very easy to miss the people when not careful.
