A candy store chain with an outlet at newly-opened mall JCube is putting social media to good use in catching handphone thieves. One culprit has already come forward after CCTV footage of his act was posted on their facebook page.
Staff had originally put up the video of a man swiping a handphone off a counter with the following message:
"TO THE THIEF WHO STOLE A MOBILE PHONE FROM OUR COUNTER TOP AT JCUBE (7:03PM), WE HAVE YOU ON FILM. YOU HAVE 2 DAYS TO RETURN IT BEFORE WE HAND OVER THE CLIP TO THE POLICE.
"THE PHONE BELONGS TO AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT AND SHE NEEDS IT TO MAKE CALLS TO HER FAMILY!
"YOU ARE PATHETIC!!
"VERY VERY PISSED OFF,
"THE STICKY CREW!"
According to staff, shoplifters who had stole candy on an earlier occasion had previously been prompted to came forward and identify themselves. This success prompted them to put up a second video, this time of a member of their staff who had her phone swiped from right under her nose, while she was drawing on their chalkboard.

"I'm glad that the staff at this shop are being proactive in safeguarding their staff and customers from thieves within their premises.
"Many times, shop staff, carpark attendants and security simply sit on CCTV footage, or refuse to release it to members of the public when a crime has been committed.
"What is the point of putting up cameras if the footage is not put to good use for catching thieves?
"This sends a clear message to would-be thieves -- this candy store's CCTV cameras are real, and staff will not let you get away with your crime.
"As a patron, I feel safer that staff are always watching for unscrupulous people within their premises. Good job guys!"
Pictures 1-18 show the first thief in action, while the remainder show the second.
